Department History
The Department of Community and Therapeutic Recreation has a long history at UNC Greensboro.
The Department’s undergraduate program has been accredited by the NRPA/AALR Council on Accreditation – The Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions – COAPRT since 1981.
2011
Department joins the School of Health and Human Sciences.
2010
Department name changes to the Department of Community and Therapeutic Recreation
2004
Department name changes to the Department of Recreation, Tourism, and Hospitality Management.
2000
Hospitality Management Program administratively housed within the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Tourism.
1998
Department name changes to the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Tourism.
1989
Department name changes to the Department of Leisure Studies.
1984
The Division becomes the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies.
1981
Recreation Division officially changes to the Recreation and Leisure Studies Division.
1974
Authorization is granted to establish an autonomous Recreation Division.
1963
The School of Health establishes a formal Physical Education and Recreation program.
1947
A professional preparation program in recreation has existed at UNCG since 1947.
